Der südkoreanische Tenor James Lee studierte Gesang an der University of Yeungnam in Kyongsan sowie an der Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. 2011–2013 war er Preisträger zahlreicher Wettbewerbe, so erhielt er u. a. den 1. Preis beim International Singing Competition Masters of Lyrical Art – Valentin Teodorian in Bukarest sowie den 1. Preis und Spezialpreis beim Competizione dell’Opera 2013 in Linz. Er stand u. a. als Calaf in Turandot und Don José in Carmen auf der Bühne sowie in den Verdi-Opern Les vêpres siciliennes als Arrigo, in Il trovatore als Manrico und in Un ballo in maschera als Riccardo. Diese Partien sang er an den Opernhäusern Graz, Freiburg und Saarbrücken sowie am Landestheater Linz, darüber hinaus war er als Calaf am Daegu Opera House, Seoul Art Center (Südkorea), I
