Biography
Jean-Claude Berutti was trained at the School of the Théâtre National de Strasbourg by Jean-Pierre Vincent and Klaus Michael Grüber. He then hired Pierre Barrat to the Atelier lyrique du Rhin in Colmar (the opera studio of the Alsatian Opéra du Rhin), where he continued his education. In 1981, Gérard Mortier added him to his first team to renew the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, which gave him the opportunity to complete his musical theater education. After three years at La Monnaie (where he worked as an assistant director with Patrice Chéreau, Karl-Ernst Hermann and Achim Freyer, among others), he became a freelance director and also staged works of spoken theater and opera.
