Biography
Latvian-born Jānis Liepiņš assumed the position of First Kapellmeister at the Nationaltheater Mannheim at the start of the 2019/20 season. He has also been the Conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet since September 2014. Recently, Liepiņš led new productions of Verdi's La Forza del Destino, Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, and highlights from Wagner's Ring cycle in concert, all at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. He also conducted Carmen at the Theater Chemnitz and made his conducting debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf with Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.
