Biography
Maurizio Lo Piccolo was born in Palermo and began to study voice in 1995. After making his operatic debut in 1996 in the role of Don Chilone in Vinci’s Erighetta e Don Chilone for the Laboratorio Lirico of Palermo, he sang Darlemont in I pazzi per progetto by Donizetti (in a production by Enzo Dara) with the Operalaboratorio di Palermo. In spring 1997 he was invited to take part in the re-opening of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, having sung there in R. Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier (Hausknecht). This was followed by several appearances at the Teatro Massimo: in 1998 as Califfo in Rossini’s Adina (ovvero il Califfo di Bagdad), as Comandante di marina in Manon Lescaut and as Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin; in 1999 he debuted as Nevrastenico in La notte di un nevrastenico by Rota.
