Tibor SZAPPANOS, tenor BIOGRAPHY Tibor Szappanos, a frequent guest at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, was born in Romania to a family of Hungarian descent. He studied in Budapest, spending five years at the Franz Liszt Academy and taking masterclasses with Renata Scotto, Nadezda Kniplova, Ralf Döring and Eva Marton, who has remained his mentor. Having gained initial experience at theatres around Hungary, he made his debut at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest in 2005, where his wide repertoire has included Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Walter von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore). He enjoyed a major success in 2014 as King László in Ferenc Erkel’s iconic nationalis
