Karen Frankenstein

American soprano Karen Frankenstein has enjoyed critical acclaim in Germany, France and the United States, performing leading roles such as Lucia di Lammermoor, Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, both Mimi and Musetta in La Bohème, Marguerite in Faust and the  Heroines in the Les Contes d'Hoffman, among others.  She recently performed the complete role of Woglinde in Barrie Kosky's  Ring Cycle at the Hannover Staatsoper as well as her first Walküre, Gerhilde. In 2010 she created the role of the Companion in Luigi Nono's Intolleranza, winner of the 2011 DER FAUST Prize for Best New Opera Production (the German equivalent of the Tony Awards) under the direction of Benedikt von Peter,  and appeared in the renowned concert series “Dialogue der Künste” in Hannover in the fall of 2011,
