Mikhail Sinkevich, Conductor
Upon the invitation of Maestro Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Sinkevich joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 2000.
In the Season 2014-2015 Mikhail Sinkevich conducts in Mariinsky Theater such operas as Pique Dame and Mazeppa by Tchaikovsky, Life for the Tsar by Glinka, Sadko by Rimsky-Korsakov, Macbeth, La Traviata,
Il Trovatore, La Forza del destino, Otello (first time 6 of January 2015), Madama Batterfly, Turandot, Lohengrin, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Schostakovich,(28 of January, The Gambler by Prokofiev(30 of January) and others.
In November 2014 Mikhail Sinkevich made revival of Jenufa by Janacek in State Croatian opera in Zagreb.
In season 2011-2013 M.Sinkevich made his debut in Bolshoi Theater (Masow) with Tsar’s Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov.
In December 2012 he made new production of Der Fliegende Hollander by Wagner in Donetsk opera with international production team and cast (first Wagner production in Ukraina).
In April-May 2009 Mikhail Sinkevich conducted Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk District by Schostakovich in Tokyo New National Theater in collaboration with Tokyo Simphony Orchestra(First production of Lafy Macbeth in Japan).
Born in Moscow in 1969, Mikhail Sinkevich graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1990 (choral conducting faculty) and in 1994 (opera/symphony conducting faculty, class of Prof. I. Musin)
From 1992 - 1994 he conducted at the St. Petersburg State Children ́s Music Theatre, Zazerkalye and at the State Music Theatre of the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory.
From 1994 v 2000 he was conductor of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of White Russia and, among others, he conducted works by Mozart (Die Zauberflote, Le nozze di Figaro), Rossini (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Verdi (La Traviata, Aida), Puccini (Madama Butterfly), Rimsky Korsakov (The Tsar ́s Bride, Mozart and Salieri), Borodin (Prince Igor). In addition to his activities as an opera conductor, he also conducted ballet works such as Tchaikovsky ́s Nutcracker and Stravinsky ́s Firebird. With the ensemble he toured to the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.
In 1997 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the State Music Theatre of Belarus (White Russia), where he conducted the main repertoire of the theatre (both opera and ballet) - a post he held until 2000. He conducted the company on various tours to Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. During the same period he also conducted numerous concerts at the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belarus and toured with the orchestra to Switzerland and Germany.
In the summer of 2001, Mikhail Sinkevich took part in the Salzburg Festival, as assistant conductor to Valery Gergiev in Peter Mussbach ́s production of Shostakovitch ́s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre.
With Mariinsky he toured many times. In 2002 (ballet) and 2003 (Macbeth by Verdy) he conducted in Metropoliten opera NY. In October 2001 he gave his debut at the Melbourne Festival, conducting a performance of Strauss ́ Salome (directed by David Freeman, production of the Mariinsky Theatre). In 2003 and 2005 he conducted ballets in Covent Garden London etc.
Since then Mikhail Sinkevich has conducted in Mariinsky operas by Tchaikovsky(Eugen Onegin,Mazeppa,Queen of Spades, Iolanta), Rimsky-Korsakov (Sadko), Borodin (Prince Igor), Glinka (Ruslan and Ludmila, Life for the Tsar), Shostakovitch (Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District) Mozart (Le nozze di Figaro), Donizetti (Lucia di Lammermoor), Verdi (Un ballo in maschera, Macbeth, La forza del destino, Don Carlo, Aida), Puccini (Madama Butterfly, Turandot), Bizet (Carmen), Wagner (Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Der Fliegende Hollander), Strauss (Salome).He conducts also a huge modern and classical ballet repertoire such as Swan Lake, Sleeping beauty, Nutcracker, La Bayaderre, Don Quixot, Giselle, Prodigal Son, Jewels, Ballet Imperial and Ravel La Valse (Balanchin) etc.
He conducts permanently various concerts with Symphony Orchestra of Mariinsky and with the leading soloists of the theatre as well.
From 2000 till 2010 Mikhail Sinkevich was a Deputy Artistic Director of Mariinsky opera. Mikhail Sinkevich conducts permanently in Russia and abroad opera and simphony repertoire.
From 2006 till now Mikhail Sinkevich permanently conducts in Cratian National Opera in Zagreb. There he made new productions of Mazeppa by Tchaikovsky (2010) and Il Trovatore by Verdi (2011), conducted such operas as Ballo in Maschera and Carmen.
Mikhail Sinkevich permanently conducts in many leading opera theaters in Russia, Ukraina and Belarus.
