Noch deutlich vor dem Erfolg des »Freischütz« schuf Carl Maria von Weber das Singspiel »Abu Hassan«, eine Geschichte um einen missglückten Betrug und den vorgetäuschten Tod des sich in Geldnöten befindenden Protagonisten. In der Ouvertüre entführt Weber beschwingt in die Welt der Märchen aus »Tausendundeiner Nacht«. Chopins Klavierkonzert Nr. 1, am Vorabend der polnischen Novemberaufstände 1830 zur Uraufführung gelangt, vereint virtuose Brillanz mit folkloristischen Anklängen. Neugier und Experimentierfreude zeichneten György Ligeti aus, der 2023 seinen 100. Geburtstag gefeiert hätte. Sein 1962 entstandenes »Poème Symphonique« (für 100 Metronome!) gehört zu seinen spannendsten Werken. Mit seiner 3. Sinfonie gelang Johannes Brahms einer der größten Erfolge zu seinen Lebzeiten, der ihm gar den Vergleich mit dem verehrten Vorbild Beethoven einbrachte.

Well before the success of “Freischütz,” Carl Maria von Weber created the musical play “Abu Hassan,” a story about a failed fraud and the faked death of the protagonist, who is in financial trouble. In the overture, Weber takes you lively into the world of fairy tales from “A Thousand and One Nights”. Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, premiered on the eve of the Polish November Uprisings in 1830, combines virtuosic brilliance with folkloric echoes. György Ligeti, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2023, was characterized by curiosity and a willingness to experiment. His “Poème Symphonique” (for 100 metronomes!), created in 1962, is one of his most exciting works. With his Third Symphony, Johannes Brahms achieved one of the greatest successes of his lifetime, which even earned him comparison with the revered role model Beethoven.
