Wenn Komponisten ihre Werke für ganz bestimmte Künstler schreiben, treibt sie das oft zu Höchstleistungen an. So auch bei John Williams und seinem zweiten Violinkonzert: "Für mich geht es in diesem Stück vor allem um Anne-Sophie Mutter und um die Violine als Meisterwerk der Geigenbaukunst", erklärt der Großmeister der Filmmusik, der sein Konzert auch als Hommage an die Violine verstanden wissen möchte. Das Werk gleicht einer emotionalen und kontrastreichen Klangreise, reich an verschiedenen Stilen und Stimmungen. Auf diesem Hintergrund ist es ein Glücksfall, wenn die Widmungsträgerin selbst auftritt. Anne-Sophie Mutter kommt nach Essen, und mit ihr das Dallas Symphony Orchestra - ein Highlight der Saison.
