Nouvelle production T&M-Paris pour l’Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur.

Fresque musico-théâtrale sur une musique et un texte de Frank Zappa. D’après le film américanobritannique réalisé par Tony Palmer et Frank Zappa sorti dans les salles en 1971. Créé le 21 septembre 2018 dans le cadre du Festival Musica de Strasbourg et le 30 septembre 2018 à la Salle Pierre Boulez de la Philharmonie de Paris. 

Artiste résolument protéiforme, Frank Zappa réalise en 1971 un film inclassable, 200 Motels, sorte de fiction-documentaire légèrement déjantée sur la vie d’un groupe de rock  : The Mothers of Invention. À la fin d’une longue tournée aux Etats-Unis, le groupe est invité à participer à une émission de télévision... qui ne va pas tarder à déraper !

Transposition scénique de ce film désormais culte, 200 Motels – The Suites est un spectacle résolument hors normes, où se mêlent concert de rock, concert symphonique, émission de télévision, opéra, comédie musicale et documentaire dans un savant et joyeux mélange des genres. 

Léo Warynski (à la baguette) et Antoine Gindt (à la mise en scène) réunissent l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, un groupe de rock (The Headshakers) et l’ensemble instrumental des Percussions de Strasbourg pour une production qui s’annonce haute en couleur !

Musical-theatre fresco with music and text by Frank Zappa. Based on the Anglo-American film directed by Tony Palmer and Frank Zappa, released in 1971. Premièred on 21 September 2018 as part of the Strasbourg Musica Festival and on 30 September 2018 at the Paris Philharmonic Salle Pierre Boulez.

A resolutely shape-shifting artist, Frank Zappa directed a film in 1971 which refuses to fit neatly into any one genre. 200 Motels, a somewhat wild, docu-fiction on the life of a rock band: The Mothers of Invention. At the end of a long tour in the United States, the band is invited to take part in a TV programme – which will soon get out of hand!

The stage adaptation of a now cult film, 200 Motels – The Suites is a resolutely unconventional show, mixing rock concert, symphonic concert, TV show, opera, musical comedy and documentary in a skilful and joyous mix of genres.

Léo Warynski (conductor) and Antoine Gindt (director) bring together the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, a rock band (The Headshakers) and the Percussions de Strasbourg instrumental ensemble for a production that promises to be colourful !

Performance in English with surtitles in French and English.
