The year 1910 was to represent a major turning point for a Russian musician who was still largely unknown in the West: when he was commissioned to compose the ballet The Firebird , Igor Stravinsky became famous in France overnight – the beginning of a worldwide career. Due to the popularity of the music, which was influenced by his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov and Claude Debussy, Stravinsky put together two suites with selected pieces from the ballet soon after the premiere, and a third followed in 1945.

The five-part song cycle Saarikoski-laulut is a work of the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and was written for the soprano Anu Komsi in the period 2013-2020. The cycle is based on the poems of Pentti Saarikoski, who was one of the most important writers in Finland in the 1960s and 70s. Even the poems are very musically conceived, Saariaho's music opens up an even deeper feeling to the listener.

Jean Sibelius was the most famous and important Finnish composer of his time. Even beyond the borders of his homeland, he made a name for himself with symphonic poems, among other things, of which Luonottar - a poem set to music that deals with the creation of the world and whose solo part is very demanding - became popular. Sibelius' 5th symphony from 1919 marks his compositional crisis during the First World War and at the same time marks a turning point in symphonic output between the classical and the modern.

Das Jahr 1910 sollte für einen im Westen noch weitgehend unbekannten russischen Musiker eine große Wende darstellen: Mit der Übernahme des Kompositionsauftrages zum Ballett Der Feuervogel wurde Igor Strawinsky über Nacht in Frankreich berühmt – der Beginn einer weltweiten Karriere. Aufgrund der Popularität der Musik, die von seinem Lehrer Rimskij-Korsakow sowie Claude Debussy beeinflusst ist, stellte Strawinsky bald nach der Uraufführung zwei Suiten mit ausgewählten Stücken aus dem Ballett zusammen, im Jahr 1945 folgte gar eine dritte.

Der fünfteilige Liederzyklus Saarikoski-laulut ist eine Arbeit der finnischen Komponistin Kaija Saariaho und wurde für die Sopranistin Anu Komsi im Zeitraum von 2013-2020 geschrieben. Der Zyklus basiert auf Gedichten Pentti Saarikoskis, der einer der wichtigsten Literaten der 1960er und 70er in Finnland war. Schon die Gedichte sind sehr musikalisch konzipiert, durch Saariahos Musik eröffnet sich dem Hörer ein noch tiefergehendes Empfinden.

Jean Sibelius war der berühmteste und bedeutendste finnische Komponist seiner Zeit. Auch über die Grenze seiner Heimat hinaus machte er sich unter anderem einen Namen mit Sinfonischen Dichtungen, von denen Luonottar – ein vertontes Gedicht, in dem es um die Entstehung der Welt geht und dessen Solopart sehr anspruchsvoll ist – populär wurde. Sibelius‘ 5. Sinfonie aus dem Jahr 1919 kennzeichnet seine kompositorische Krise während des 1. Weltkrieges und markiert gleichzeitig eine Wende im sinfonischen Schaffen zwischen Klassik und Moderne.
