Mozarts Sinfonie Nr. 39 ist die erste von drei Sinfonien seiner letzten Sinfonien-Gruppe, die er innerhalb weniger Wochen im Sommer 1788 komponierte. Aus Mangel an Wissen über ihre Entstehung wird ihnen oft ein vermächtnishafter Charakter zugesprochen. Mozart starb jedoch erst drei Jahre später. Seinen Tod wird er 1788 nicht vorausgeahnt haben, und so handelte er doch wohl eher aus finanzieller Not heraus und hoffte mit den Werken die Gunst des Wiener Publikums und ein finanzielles Polster zurückzuerlangen.
Für den Weltstar Kurt Rydl ist sein Auftritt in Wuppertal Konzertreise und Heimkehr zugleich, ist er doch familiär eng mit der Stadt verbunden. Auch die Sopranistin Simone Schneider, vielfache Interpretin des jugendlich-dramatischen Fachs, insbesondere von Wagner, stammt nicht weit entfernt aus Hagen. Zusammen mit Benjamin Bruns (Tenor), ebenfalls Wagner-Spezialist der Bayreuther Festspiele, bilden sie die perfekte Besetzung für eine konzertante Aufführung des 1. Akts von Richard Wagners Oper ›Die Walküre‹.

Mozart's Symphony No. 39 is the first of three symphonies from his last symphony group, which he composed within a few weeks in the summer of 1788. Due to a lack of knowledge about their origin, they are often attributed a legacy character. However, Mozart did not die until three years later. He will not have foreseen his death in 1788, and so he probably acted out of financial need and hoped to win back the favor of the Viennese public and a financial cushion with the works.
For world star Kurt Rydl, his performance in Wuppertal is both a concert tour and a homecoming, as he has close family ties to the city. The soprano Simone Schneider, multiple interpreter of the young-dramatic subject, especially Wagner, is not far from Hagen. Together with Benjamin Bruns (tenor), also a Wagner specialist at the Bayreuth Festival, they form the perfect cast for a concert performance of the first act of Richard Wagner's opera Die Walküre.
