Das Cellokonzert wird umrahmt von Musik zweier skandinavischer Komponisten: Tundra ist ein Werk von Poul Ruders, das die breite Landschaftsfläche seines Titels genauso großflächig widerspiegelt. Gleichzeitig ist sie eine Hommage an Jean Sibelius, dessen 5. Sinfonie den Konzertschluss bildet. One of the greatest cellists of our time is coming to Bad Reichenhall! Legendary cellist Gary Hoffman performs a masterpiece of his instrument: Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto. The cello concerto is framed by music by two Scandinavian composers: Tundra is a work by Poul Ruders, which reflects the broad landscape of its title just as extensively. At the same time, it is a homage to Jean Sibelius, whose 5th symphony forms the end of the concert. In one moment Sibelius describes in tones a memory of swans flying in circles from a pond to disappear into the sunrise...
