Synthèse parfaite entre drame intime et fresque à grand spectacle, opéra romantique italien et grand opéra français, Aida oppose dans une lutte fratricide l’Egypte des pharaons à l’Ethiopie, lointains prédécesseurs de l’Autriche et de l’Italie. Au son des trompettes et tam-tams, un piège implacable se referme sur ses deux héros – l’esclave éthiopienne Aida et le général égyptien Radamès – lorsque celui-ci est choisi pour mener un nouvel assaut contre l’ennemi : Aida doit décider entre sa passion et le devoir patriotique, un conflit qui ne trouve d’issue que dans la mort. Pour sa plus grandiose oeuvre lyrique destinée à inaugurer le canal de Suez, Verdi a réservé quelques-uns de ses plus beaux airs aux amants condamnés. Un drame humain poignant, mis en scène par Annabel Arden qui apporte sa vision personnelle au baume mélodique verdien.

To the sound of trumpets and tom-toms, an implacable trap closes on its two heroes – the Ethiopian slave Aida and the Egyptian general Radamès – when the latter is chosen to lead a new assault against the enemy: Aida must decide between his passion and patriotic duty, a conflict that can only be resolved in death. For his most grandiose lyrical work intended to inaugurate the Suez Canal, Verdi reserved some of his finest arias for doomed lovers. A poignant human drama, directed by Annabel Arden who brings her personal vision to the melodic balm of Verde.
