The unusual opera by the aging master Verdi is one of the most popular works of world opera literature. It was created on an order that came all the way from exotic Cairo and was supposed to be presented as part of the ceremonial opening of the Suez Canal. Although it did not take place completely according to plans and the work was played a little later, the festive character remained unchanged. In Aida's music, the spectacular glitter of state and military ceremonies meets tense moments of emotional conflicts of the central protagonists, and the external splendor of mass scenes with choirs and ballet numbers with intimately tuned passages of lyrical personal confessions. Aida is not only an engaging romantic story with captivating music, but also a narrative monumental fresco that attracts the eyes as much as the ears.
