Verdi's exceptional opera is one of the most popular works of world opera literature. It was commissioned from as far away as exotic Cairo and was to be performed as part of the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal.
 
The Ethiopian princess Aida fell into Egyptian captivity, remaining a slave to the Egyptian princess Amneris. The two young women love the warrior Radames, but he declared his feelings to Aida. But the lovers had to face a difficult choice between loyalty to their country and their love for each other. Unfavourable circumstances were pointing towards an inevitable catastrophe. Love fulfilled and unfulfilled, the ties to the homeland, jealousy, intrigues, and revenge - Aida is a genuine romantic story. The production is a monumental historical fresco thanks to Verdi's thrilling music and Pavel Smolík's traditional direction.

Verdis ungewöhnliche Oper zählt zu den populärsten Werken der Opernliteratur. Sie entstand auf Bestellung aus dem exotischen Kairo und sollte als Teil der feierlichen Zeremonie bei der Eröffnung des Suezkanals aufgeführt werden.
Die äthiopische Prinzessin Aida gerät in die ägyptische Gefangenschaft, wo sie Sklavin der ägyptischen Prinzessin Amneris wird. Beide junge Frauen lieben den Heerführer Radames, der erwidert jedoch die Gefühle von Aida. Das Liebespaar muss eine schwere Wahl zwischen der Loyalität gegenüber der Heimat und der gemeinsamen Liebe treffen. Ungünstige Umstände führen zu einer unabwendbaren Katastrophe. Erfüllte und unerfüllte Liebe, Heimatbindung, Eifersucht, Intrigen und Rache – Aida ist eine wahre romantische Geschichte. Dank Verdis atemberaubender Musik und traditioneller Regie von Pavol Smolík ist die Inszenierung ein monumentales historisches Fresko.

Nevšedná Verdiho opera patrí medzi najpopulárnejšie diela svetovej opernej literatúry. Vznikla na objednávku, ktorá prišla až z exotickej Káhiry, a mala byť uvedená ako súčasť slávnostného ceremoniálu pri otváraní Suezského prieplavu.
 
Etiópska princezná Aida sa dostala do egyptského zajatia, kde sa stane otrokyňou egyptskej princeznej Amneris. Obe mladé ženy milujú vojvodcu Radamesa, ten však prejaví svoje city Aide. Milenci však musia riešiť ťaživú voľbu medzi lojalitou k vlasti a vzájomnou láskou. Nepriaznivo naklonené okolnosti smerujú k neodvratnej katastrofe. Láska naplnená i nenaplnená, puto k vlasti, žiarlivosť, intrigy a pomsta – Aida je skutočným romantickým príbehom. Vďaka strhujúcej Verdiho hudbe a tradičnej réžii Pavla Smolíka je inscenácia monumentálnou historickou freskou.
