„Było to w czasie biesiady wspaniałej”, a dokładniej uczty Aleksandra Wielkiego, który celebrował zwycięstwo nad Persami. Świętowanie – temat przewodni tegorocznej Wratislavii Cantans – pojawia się już w pierwszych słowach Uczty Aleksandra. Odświętne były też okoliczności powstania utworu, a powody do fetowania mają artyści, których usłyszmy.
W Persepolis, zdobytej właśnie stolicy, Aleksander opijał wygraną w towarzystwie ukochanej Tais, żołnierzy i Tymoteusza, macedońskiego muzyka. Bohaterowie oratorium Händla to autentyczne postacie, a Tymoteusz przeszedł do historii jako artysta wywierający wpływ na Aleksandra poprzez muzykę. O niezwykłej mocy sztuki mówi sam tytuł oratorium, który w całości brzmi: Alexander’s Feast or The Power of Music. Händel skomponował utwór dla uczczenia dnia św. Cecylii, patronki muzyków, której przypisuje się umiejętność gry na organach. Oratorium pokazuje więc dwóch artystów posługujących się potęgą sztuki – Tymoteusza, który opiewa ziemskiego władcę i jego złudną, przemijalną potęgę, oraz Cecylię, służącą talentem Bogu.
Osoba Paula Goodwina, który poprowadzi wykonanie oratorium Georga Friedricha, gwarantuje wspaniały koncert. Maestro jest laureatem Händel Honorary Prize przyznawanej przez miasto Halle, rodzinną miejscowość kompozytora. Goodwin słynie z doskonałych interpretacji muzyki dawnej, przez jedenaście lat był dyrygentem Academy of Ancient Music. Dzięki jego niespożytej energii koncerty są pełne ekspresji, podobnie jak niegdysiejsze występy Tymoteusza. Podczas koncertu obok światowej sławy solistów zaśpiewa świętujący trzydziestolecie istnienia Dresdner Kammerchor, który jest „ambasadorem” Drezna i całej Saksonii i którego popisową umiejętnością jest właśnie wykonywanie dzieł Händla. Zagra Wrocławska Orkiestra Barokowa, w tym roku szczególnie doceniona za koncerty w Händlowskim repertuarze podczas zorganizowanej przez Narodowe Forum Muzyki Akademii Händlowskiej.

"It was during a great feast", and more precisely the feast of Alexander the Great, who was celebrating the victory over the Persians. Celebration – the leitmotif of this year's Wratislavia Cantans – appears in the first words of Aleksander's Feast. The circumstances of the work's creation were also festive, and the artists we will hear have reasons to celebrate.
In Persepolis, the captured capital, Alexander drank his victory in the company of his beloved Tais, soldiers and Timothy, a Macedonian musician. The characters in Handel's oratorio are real people, and Timothy has gone down in history as an artist who influenced Alexander through music. The very title of the oratorio, which in its entirety reads: Alexander's Feast or The Power of Music , speaks of the extraordinary power of art. Handel composed the piece to celebrate St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians, who is credited with the ability to play the organ. Thus, the oratorio shows two artists using the power of art - Tymoteusz, who praises the earthly ruler and his illusory, transient power, and Cecylia, who serves God with her talent.
The person of Paul Goodwin, who will conduct the performance of George Friedrich's oratorio, guarantees a great concert. The Maestro is the winner of the Händel Honorary Prize awarded by the city of Halle, the composer's hometown. Goodwin is famous for his excellent interpretations of early music, for eleven years he was the conductor of the Academy of Ancient Music. Thanks to his inexhaustible energy, concerts are full of expression, just like Tymoteusz's performances in the past. During the concert, the world-famous soloists will be joined by the Dresdner Kammerchor, celebrating its thirtieth anniversary, which is the "ambassador" of Dresden and all of Saxony, and whose signature skill is precisely the performance of Handel's works.
