Der reichste Mann Wiens hat eine Operntruppe und ein Commedia dell’Arte-Ensemble beauftragt, sein Fest künstlerisch zu umrahmen. Aus Zeitmangel – das Feuerwerk muss pünktlich beginnen! – sollen nun allerdings die tragische Oper und das lustige Stück der Komödientruppe nicht nacheinander, sondern gleichzeitig aufgeführt werden – sehr zum Leidwesen des jungen Komponisten, der deshalb an seiner geliebten tragischen Oper äusserst schmerzhafte Kürzungen und Änderungen vornehmen muss... Schein und Sein, Theaterwelt und Realität, Komik und Tragik, die treu liebende, unglückliche Ariadne und die leichtlebige, die Männer wie Kleidungsstücke wechselnde Zerbinetta – diese Gegen­sätze bestimmen Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. Regisseur Claus Guth erzählt das Stück aus einem ungewöhnlichen Blickwinkel und verlegt die «fiktive Insel», auf der der zweite Teil des Stückes angesiedelt ist, in die Zürcher Kronenhalle. Die gefeierte Inszenierung kehrt nun in einer neuen Besetzung auf die Bühne des Opernhauses zurück: Michaela Kaune als Ariadne ist ebenso wie Olga Pudova als Zerbinetta erstmals am Opernhaus Zürich zu erleben. Als Komponist singen die Mezzosopranistinnen Stephanie Houtzeel und Michelle Breedt. Die musikalische Leitung übernimmt Generalmusikdirektor Fabio Luisi.

The richest man in Vienna commissioned an opera company and a commedia dell'arte ensemble to artistically frame his festival. Due to lack of time – the fireworks have to start on time! - but the tragic opera and the comedy troupe's funny piece are not to be performed one after the other, but at the same time - much to the chagrin of the young composer, who therefore has to make extremely painful cuts and changes to his beloved tragic opera... Appearance and reality, theater world and reality, comedy and tragedy, the faithfully loving, unhappy Ariadne and the easy-going Zerbinetta, who changes men like clothes – these opposites determine Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. Director Claus Guth tells the play from an unusual perspective and relocates the "fictitious island" on which the second part of the play is based to Zurich's Kronenhalle. The celebrated production is now returning to the Zurich Opera House with a new cast: Michaela Kaune as Ariadne and Olga Pudova as Zerbinetta can be seen for the first time at the Zurich Opera House. The composers are the mezzo-sopranos Stephanie Houtzeel and Michelle Breedt. The musical direction will be taken over by General Music Director Fabio Luisi.
