Watch scenes from our 2016 production of Handel's Ariodante. Ariodante, one of Handel’s most radiantly beautiful scores, echoes myriad emotions in this story of love, honour, and deception. Polinesso’s romantic advances have been rejected by Ginevra, who is in love with Ariodante. Polinesso cruelly seeks revenge and tricks Ariodante into believing that Ginevra has been unfaithful to him. When Ariodante disappears, Ginevra’s honour, love, and life are at stake. Who will defend her? And will her beloved Ariodante return to her? Alice Coote and Jane Archibald—two COC favourites—returned to head a dream Baroque cast under the baton of Music Director Johannes Debus. This COC premiere was a co-production with the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Dutch National Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago.
