L’Ensemble Alia Mens interprète trois cantates que Bach a composées à la cour de Saxe-Weimar. A 23 ans, Bach quitte ses fonctions de maître de musique sacrée de Mühlhausen. À Weimar, Bach découvre les fonds de la bibliothèque locale, une manne pour cet esprit curieux et ambitieux pour son art. S’en suit un temps de riche expérimentation et de découvertes musicales majeures dans la maturation du compositeur. L’Ensemble Alia Mens regrette la disparition ou la perte de nombreuses œuvres et confie « Il est assez émouvant de voir le musicien se livrer, à chaque nouvelle pièce, à des expérimentations sur la forme, sur les idées, sur le langage pour tenter de rendre la parole de Dieu exprimée au travers des textes la plus sensible possible ». Installé dans notre région, l’Ensemble Alia Mens réunit chanteurs et instrumentistes pratiquant sur instruments historiques sous la direction d’Olivier Spilmont. Sa complicité, sa profondeur, sa sobriété, sa justesse expressive et poétique, ainsi que son engagement donnent à l’auditeur un accès intime à ces oeuvres et le rendent plus sensible et ouvert à l’écoute.

The Alia Mens Ensemble performs three cantatas that Bach composed at the court of Saxe-Weimar. At the age of 23, Bach left his position as master of sacred music at Mühlhausen. In Weimar, Bach discovered the funds of the local library, a godsend for this curious and ambitious spirit for his art. There followed a period of rich experimentation and major musical discoveries in the maturation of the composer. The Alia Mens Ensemble regrets the disappearance or loss of many works and confides "It is quite moving to see the musician engage, with each new piece, in experiments on form, on ideas, on language in an attempt to make the word of God expressed through the texts as sensitive as possible”. Installed in our region, the Alia Mens Ensemble brings together singers and instrumentalists practicing on historical instruments under the direction of Olivier Spilmont. His complicity, his depth, his sobriety, his expressive and poetic accuracy, as well as his commitment give the listener intimate access to these works and make him more sensitive and open to listening.
