La « saint Jean » est la première des deux passions de Jean-Sébastien Bach (1685-1750) qui ont traversé les siècles. Composée à Leipzig en 1724, elle demeure un chef-d’oeuvre incontournable du répertoire baroque sacré. Ses dimensions plus réduites que la saint Matthieu confèrent à cette Passion une urgence et une efficacité dramatique absolues. Pour servir ce récit intense, Ambronay a fait appel à un de ses ensembles les plus fidèles, Les Surprises de Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, accompagné par Ambronay au début des années 2010 et qui poursuit depuis une très belle carrière sous la direction fougueuse de son chef.

“Saint John” is the first of the two passions of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) which have survived the centuries. Composed in Leipzig in 1724, it remains an essential masterpiece of the sacred Baroque repertoire. Its dimensions, which are smaller than Saint Matthew, give this Passion absolute urgency and dramatic effectiveness. To serve this intense story, Ambronay has called on one of its most faithful ensembles, Les Surprises by Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, accompanied by Ambronay in the early 2010s and which has since pursued a very fine career under the fiery direction of His boss.
