One of the most exciting and desired directors on the scene makes his debut at the Teatro de la Maestranza: the Russian Vasily Petrenko leading a group known to theater fans where he has always shone in outstanding evenings: the Barenboim Said Foundation Orchestra that brings together the musical excellence with its firm commitment to the training of young talent in Andalusia. After winning the Cadaqués Conducting Competition in 2002 at the age of 26, Petrenko has developed an opulent, transparent and sumptuous sound at the Liverpool Philharmonic and the Oslo Philharmonic, attentive to all the details. that has dazzled international critics, who celebrate his multiple recordings. Today he is the new head of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The symphonic suite Scheherazade , Op. 35 , by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, premiered in 1888 and based, as is well known, on The Tales of a Thousand and One Nights , with its world of sultans, princesses and adventures, takes the usual to the extreme. temptation of Russian composers to propose dazzling orchestrations that, in this case, elude any narrative will to pursue pure and changing musical scenes supported by precious motifs that appear, leave and come back. The composition process between 1935 and its premiere in 1938 was subjected to government pressure that accused composers like Shostakovich of formal "deviationism" and Prokofiev had to abandon his initial idea of ​​giving Shakespeare's story a happy ending.
