Liberation through forced marriage? In Humperdinck's comic opera  The Marriage Against Will  , the protagonist Luise involves those around her in all sorts of intrigues, which ultimately lead to two happy marriages. Humperdinck's wife Hedwig wrote the feminist libretto based on Alexandre Dumas'  Les demoiselles de Saint Cyr .

On the basis of the folk song collection  Des Knaben Wunderhorn  by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano, over many years Mahler created a musical cosmos that contains all facets of human life. The ballad-like, humorous orchestral songs are intended to be gender-neutral, regardless of the vocal range, and can be freely combined.

In 1827, Franz Schubert literally buried Ludwig van Beethoven as a torch bearer. Beethoven had set the bar high for the symphony genre, but Schubert managed to free himself from the shadow of the 'Titan' with one last stroke of genius. With his  great , the Symphony in C major, he trod a new symphonic path and at the same time reflected on musical traditions with episodes reminiscent of folk songs.
