It's almost 15 years since the great Czech conductor Jirí Belohlávek last conducted the Wiener Symphoniker. After his celebrated guest appearance at the Vienna Musikverein with "his" Czech Philharmonic in early 2015, it's time to welcome him back. As a pupil of Sergiu Celibidache, it's no surprise that Belohlávek prizes the warm, soft tones of late German Romanticism. Representing this aspect in this concert is Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1, with Elisabeth Leonskaja as soloist. It is preceded by a true masterpiece. Mozart's famous C major Symphony, also known as the "Linz". Overflowing with brilliant, perfectly executed ideas, the "Linz" Symphony is simply sublime.
