Lightning bolts speak German - a story between opera, thriller and political fall, somewhere between real (West) German arms industry and military history, between World War I and a transatlantic alliance, as it could take place in a model city in Germany like Kassel. An investigator goes on a search - and the monstrous reveals itself: a world of intelligent electromagnetic phenomena and their influence on humanity. They exist in a time order that can only be told as a musical principle. The music theater commission of the new directorship of the Kassel State Theater by composer Felix Leuschner is a coup that only the  "only relevant science fiction writer of contemporary German-language literature"(Die Zeit) Dietmar Dath can design. Together with Leuschner, Dath has conceived a story that concentrates the pain points of German and European society in iconic figures. Felix Leuschner's tonal language encompasses a spectrum from large orchestral works to electronic music and extended vocal techniques. His music theater works allow theater and composition to merge, so that this work emerges as a piece development. Lightning speaks Germanwill establish an annual tradition of world premieres at the Staatstheater Kassel from the 2021/22 season. The musical director is GMD Francesco Angelico. The director Florentine Klepper is responsible for the production. She has not only made a name for herself as an expert in world premieres, but also regularly staged at the opera houses in Dresden and Frankfurt.
