1759 m. Prancūzijoje pasirodė vieno žymiausių XVIII a. mąstytojų, satyriko ir filosofo Voltaire’o apsakymas Kandidas, arba Optimizmas. Slapta išspausdintas, dėl savo politinės satyros, religinio piktžodžiavimo ir socialinės kritikos jis tuoj pat buvo uždraustas. Tačiau ši juokingai liūdna, kupina ironijos filosofinė apysaka tik populiarėjo. O 1956 m. tapo Leonardo Bernsteino (1918–1990), pasak The New York Times, „vieno genialiausių, talentingiausių ir labiausiai vertinamų muzikų per visą Amerikos istoriją“, operetės Kandidas pagrindu. Premjera įvyko Niujorko Broadway teatre, spektaklis, neprarandantis nei satyriškai perteikto temos aktualumo, nei muzikos žavesio, statomas daugelyje pasaulio teatrų. 2012 m. ši operetė pirmą kartą skambėjo Lietuvoje, LNOBT.

Dabartinį pastatymą parengė publikai iš elegantiškų Manon ir Kapulečiai ir Montekiai pastatymų pažįstamas prancūzų režisierius Vincent’as Boussard’as su ta pačia kūrėjų komanda bei muzikos vadovas Sesto Quatrini.

Printed in secret, it was immediately banned for its political satire, religious blasphemy, and social criticism. But this ridiculously sad, ironic philosophical short story only grew in popularity. And in 1956 became the basis of the operetta Candide by Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990), according to The New York Times , "one of the most brilliant, talented and highly regarded musicians in American history" . It premiered on Broadway in New Yorkin the theater, the performance, which does not lose either the topicality of the satirically conveyed theme or the charm of the music, is staged in many theaters around the world. in 2012 this operetta was played for the first time in Lithuania, LNOBT.

The current production was prepared for the audience by the French director Vincent Boussard, known to the audience from the elegant productions of Manon and Capulets and Montecchi, with the same creative team and music director Sesto Quatrini.
