Sandra divides her time between melting ice research and stand-up comedy . Concerned by her recent studies concerning the impact of human activities on the environment, she wishes to raise awareness with humour. There is a worrying skepticism around her, even within her own family. Just as Cassandra had announced the fall of Troy without being heard, Sandra predicted the imminent approach of a terrible tragedy without anyone listening...   
  
How do you convince others when they refuse to hear you? Why do some ignore the future they have in front of them? For his first opera, the Belgian composer Bernard Foccroulle chose a highly topical theme: ecological activism, confronted with the inertia of society. Thanks to powerfully evocative music, directed by Kazushi Ono, and sets that transport us in turn to a huge library, a beehive or the heart of a glacier, Cassandra opens the 2023-24 season with strength and poetry.

Sandra partage son temps entre la recherche sur la fonte des glaces et le stand-up. Préoccupée par ses récentes études concernant l’impact des activités humaines sur l’environnement, elle souhaite éveiller les consciences avec humour. Il règne autour d’elle un scepticisme inquiétant, même au sein de sa propre famille. Tout comme Cassandre avait annoncé la chute de Troie sans être entendue, Sandra prédit l’approche imminente d’une terrible tragédie sans que personne ne l’écoute…   
  
Comment convaincre les autres quand ils refusent de vous entendre ? Pourquoi certains ignorent le futur qu’ils ont sous les yeux ? Pour son premier opéra, le compositeur belge Bernard Foccroulle a choisi un thème d’une grande actualité : l’activisme écologique, confronté à l’inertie de la société. Grâce à une musique puissamment évocatrice, dirigée par Kazushi Ono, et des décors qui nous transportent tour à tour dans une immense bibliothèque, une ruche ou au cœur d’un glacier, Cassandra ouvre la saison 2023-24 avec force et poésie.

Sandra verdeelt haar tijd tussen wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar de smeltende ijskappen en stand-upcomedy. Verontrust door haar recente ontdekkingen over het effect van menselijke activiteiten op het milieu, probeert ze mensen met humor bewust te maken van wat er gaande is. Haar directe omgeving, zelfs haar eigen familie, reageert echter sceptisch. Net zoals Cassandra in de Griekse mythologie tevergeefs de val van Troje aankondigde, luistert niemand naar haar waarschuwingen voor de tragedie die op handen is.

Waarom negeren we de toekomst terwijl die ons recht in de ogen staart? Hoe kun je mensen overtuigen als ze niet willen luisteren? Voor zijn eerste opera koos de Belgische componist Bernard Foccroulle, in samenwerking met librettist Matthew Jocelyn, een brandend actueel thema: ecologisch activisme dat te pletter loopt tegen de inertie van de samenleving. Met een bijzonder evocatieve partituur, gedirigeerd door Kazushi Ono, en met decors die ons beurtelings meenemen naar een enorme bibliotheek, een bijenkorf en het hart van een gletsjer, vormt Cassandra een krachtige en poëtische opener van het nieuwe operaseizoen.
