"Cavalleria rusticana", an opera in one act, was awarded by the Sonzogno Music Publishing House in Milan in 1890. One of the most acclaimed titles of the verist current, "Cavalleria rusticana" justifies its presence in the repertoire of theaters around the world. The inspiration with which the composer found the literary text, the musical correspondent, the plasticity of the images and the passionate character of the song, typically Italian, justifies the glory of this title, with which he did not compete with any other creation of Pietro Mascagni. The opera premiered at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on May 17, 1890.
