Une conteuse évoque les aventures de Simbad le marin et du prince Kalender pour sauver sa vie. En 1888, Rimski-Korsakov donne ses lettres de noblesse à l’orchestre russe en revisitant le mythe de Shéhérazade. Huit ans avant, son compatriote Borodine invoquait lui aussi l’Orient sibérien dans ses Steppes d’Asie centrale. Côté français, c’est à une voluptueuse rêverie qu’invite Ravel en 1903, à travers son cycle Shéhérazade, en forme d’hommage à ses contemporains russes. Véronique Gens se fait la passeuse de cette Asie, narrant les charmes du Bel indifférent.

A storyteller evokes the adventures of Simbad the sailor and Prince Kalender to save his life. In 1888, Rimsky-Korsakov gave his letters of nobility to the Russian orchestra by revisiting the myth of Scheherazade. Eight years earlier, his compatriot Borodin also invoked the Siberian Orient in his Central Asian Steppes. On the French side, it is to a voluptuous reverie that Ravel invites in 1903, through his cycle Shéhérazade, in the form of a tribute to his Russian contemporaries. Véronique Gens is the ferryman of this Asia, narrating the charms of the indifferent Bel.
