The philosopher Don Alfonso wants to prove to the young officers Ferrando and Guglielmo that their fiancés Dorabella and Fiordiligi are also unfaithful if they only get the chance to do so. The two friends are 100% convinced of the loyalty of their loved ones and, confident of victory, embark on a cynical bet. Supported by the maid Despina, Alfonso weaves an emotionally turbulent game of confusion at the end of which love and sorrow are balanced. In COSÌ FAN TUTTE, Mozart follows the characters with empathy, despite all the ironic distance, but still in the greatest confusion: Buffonesque templates become people – the comedy gets serious.

Der Philosoph Don Alfonso will den jungen Offizieren Ferrando und Guglielmo beweisen, dass auch ihre Verlobten Dorabella und Fiordiligi untreu sind, wenn sich ihnen nur die Gelegenheit dazu bietet. Von der Zofe Despina unterstützt entspinnt Alfonso ein emotional-turbulentes Verwirrspiel, an dessen Ende Liebe und Leid sich die Waage halten. Mozart folgt in COSÌ FAN TUTTE den Figuren bei aller ironischer Distanz aber noch in der größten Verwirrtheit mit Empathie: Aus buffonesken Schablonen werden Menschen – die Komödie macht ernst.
