"Why shouldn't a woman have an affair?" Yes, damn it, why not?! The gentlemen of the (operetta) world are only too happy to boast about their countless conquests and the many (unsolicited) kissed lips. Does anyone really believe that this could work if the ladies of creation always sat lonely and modestly at home? Varieties of love with all their attendant circumstances from bouncing to broken hearts, silent to hot kissing lips across all national and gender borders are the engine of every operetta plot - and most likely every real society as well. Between deep longing and tongue-in-cheek frivolity, composers such as Franz Lehár, Richard Heuberger and Johann Strauss knew how to express human desires in their operettas.

In a semi-staged operetta collage, Theater Bielefeld takes a humorous look at this already entertaining genre. Whether amorous free spirits, insecure lovers, bored married couples or erotic failures: Driven by secret longings, they all end up stranded in Maxim's notorious establishment, after all there is more than a chambre séparée here. And they are all searching: but do they themselves know what?
