Der fliegende Holländer
Vor fünf Jahren sang der walisische Bariton Bryn Terfel, der zu den begehrtesten Sängern der Welt gehört, zum ersten Mal am Opernhaus Zürich. In einem begeistert aufgenommenen Hausdebüt war er der Holländer in der Neuinszenierung von Andreas Homoki. In der gleichen Partie ist er nun erneut an unserem Haus zu erleben. Die Senta singt in unserer Wideraufnahme mit der finnischen Sopranistin Camilla Nylund eine nicht weniger grossartige Stimme im dramatischen Fach. Steven Humes, der als Wagner-Interpret unlängst Erfolge als Landgraf Hermann, König Heinrich und König Marke feierte, übernimmt die Partie des Daland, und Marco Jentzsch komplettiert als Erik eine hochkarätige Solisten-Besetzung. Andreas Homokis Inszenierung entwickelt die Handlung in einem Handelskontor aus der Zeit des Kolonialismus. In den von Profitmaximierung und rücksichtsloser Ausbeutung der Dritten Welt gekennzeichneten Kaufmannskosmos Dalands dringt der Fliegende Holländer als archaisch irreale Gegenfigur ein. Für Senta, eine Frau mit unbedingtem Anspruch auf Selbstverwirklichung, die aus der durchrationalisierten Welt ihres Vaters Daland fliehen will, wird der geheimnisumwitterte Aussenseiter zum grossen Hoffnungsträger. Doch die Begegnung der beiden endet tragisch.

Five years ago, the Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel, who is one of the most sought-after singers in the world, sang for the first time at the Zurich Opera House. In an enthusiastically received house debut, he was the Dutchman in Andreas Homoki's new production. He can now be seen again at our house in the same game. In our revival with the Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund, Senta sings a no less magnificent voice in the dramatic field. Steven Humes, who recently enjoyed success as a Wagner interpreter as Landgraf Hermann, König Heinrich and König Marke, takes on the role of Daland, and Marco Jentzsch completes a top-class cast of soloists as Erik. Andreas Homoki's production develops the action in a trading post from the colonial era. The Flying Dutchman invades the merchant cosmos of Daland, which is characterized by profit maximization and ruthless exploitation of the Third World, as an archaically unreal counter-figure. For Senta, a woman with an unconditional right to self-realization who wants to flee the thoroughly rationalized world of her father Daland, the outsider shrouded in mystery becomes a great hope. But the encounter between the two ends in tragedy.
