As familiar as the work may be, the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss' birth is marked with an innovation. The festival is being held for the first time, and the opera will be presented without the cuts made since the premiere in 1911, as the censors demanded it for excessive frivolity. The numbers stand out in sharper profile, with the most notable change in the first storyline being Baron Ochs' monologue, which now clearly defines his high position.
