Créé au Teatro alla Scala de Milan le 26 février 1957 et en français à l’Opéra de Paris le 21 juin 1957 à l'occasion du 50ème anniversaire de la mort de Poulenc

Traduisant en musique toute l’intensité dramatique de la pièce de Bernanos qui évoque les derniers jours de religieuses sacrifiées à la Révolution, Poulenc jette un pont entre profane et religieux. Il peint avec un sens poétique rare quelques portraits — Blanche, Mme Lidoine, Mère Marie — qui demeurent parmi les plus poignants du théâtre lyrique. Après La Voix humaine en 2007, la soprano Mireille Delunsch, artiste associée à l’Opéra cette saison, présente là sa deuxième mise en scène. "Sa Jenufa (Janacek) a bouleversé l'Opéra de Bordeaux. Du rire aux larmes, Mireille Delunsch peut tout : chanter, bien sûr, mais aussi penser l'opéra. La soprano revient ainsi dans la maison aquitaine à l'affiche de deux productions très prometteuses, deux nouvelles aventures : la prise de l'imposant rôle-titre de Salomé de Richard Strauss, et la mise en scène des Dialogues des Carmélites de Poulenc."

Translating into music all the dramatic intensity of Bernanos' play, which evokes the last days of nuns sacrificed to the Revolution, Poulenc builds a bridge between profane and religious. He painted with a rare poetic sense some portraits - Blanche, Mme Lidoine, Mère Marie - which remain among the most poignant of the lyrical theater. After La Voix humaine in 2007, the soprano Mireille Delunsch, artist associated with the Opera this season, presents her second staging. " His Jenufa(Janacek) upset the Opéra de Bordeaux. From laughter to tears, Mireille Delunsch can do anything: sing, of course, but also think about opera. The soprano is thus returning to the Aquitaine house with two very promising productions, two new adventures: taking on the imposing title role of Salomé by Richard Strauss, and the staging of Dialogues des Carmélites by Poulenc. "
