Composé d’après L’Énéide de Virgile, ce chef-d’oeuvre lyrique conte les amours fulgurantes et tragiques de Didon, reine de Carthage, et Énée, prince de Troie. Contraints par les sorcières et les esprits de mettre fin à leur idylle, le prince abandonne sa bien-aimée qui mourra de chagrin.

Mêlant la comédie à la tragédie, le metteur en scène Benoît Bénichou dessine une trame subtile au service de ce drame des passions. Au coeur d’une scénographie envoûtante, faite de jeux de tulles et de miroirs, quatre chanteurs se partagent les rôles. Remarquable Didon, la soprane Déborah Cachet déchire le coeur jusqu’au superbe aria final. Les douze chanteurs du Jeune Choeur de Paris se font tour à tour courtisans, sorciers et commentateurs du drame. Dans la fosse, le violoniste Johannes Pramsohler dirige avec intensité et raffinement les douze musiciens de l’ensemble Diderot, en parfaite osmose avec les nombreuses voix.
Une histoire d’amour mythique où pouvoir et passion s’allient aux splendeurs de la musique baroque de Purcell.

Composed after Virgil 's Aeneid, this lyrical masterpiece recounts the dazzling and tragic loves of Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, Prince of Troy. Forced by the witches and the spirits to put an end to their idyll, the prince abandons his beloved who will die of grief.

Combining comedy with tragedy, the director Benoît Bénichou draws a subtle framework in the service of this drama of passions. At the heart of a bewitching scenography, made up of games of tulle and mirrors, four singers share the roles. Remarkable Dido, the soprano Déborah Cachet tears the heart to the superb final aria. The twelve singers of the Jeune Choeur de Paris are in turn courtiers, sorcerers and commentators of the drama. In the pit, violinist Johannes Pramsohler directs the twelve musicians of the Diderot ensemble with intensity and refinement, in perfect osmosis with the many voices.
A mythical love story where power and passion combine with the splendours of Purcell's baroque music.
