The Twelve Shillings Opera by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill is one of the musical theater repertoire's most popular and played works. It speaks to us straight up and down without beautifying descriptions or emotional appeal. The story revolves around human desire as a constant driving force, where everyone benefits from what one has; his body, his soul, his morals. The Twelve Shillings Opera's socially critical message does not go unnoticed. This is the opera of the poor. In Magnus Lindman's new translation of Brecht's text, there is filth and decadence, but we also experience the beauty of music closer than ever.

Some of the work's songs have become hits and come to life off the theater stage, such as Mackie Kniven's "Moritat", which has become a big hit by everything from Louis Armstrong and Lyle Lovelett to Liberace and Westlife. During the late 80's, the Empire had a big impact with its rock version of "Kanonsången".

The director of Folkoperan's artistic director  is Mellika Melouani Melani  and  Jonas Nydesjö is in charge of the musical direction . In the roles we see actors, opera singers, burlesque artists, guest choirs and a real opera orchestra. It will be Twelve Shillings Opera with opera at max!
