Will we be the same when we meet again? This question moves both Konstanze and Belmonte. The couple were separated after a mugging. Since then, Konstanze has been living in a seraglio with Bassa Selim, who has fallen in love with her but does not want to harass her. For better or worse, she has to deal with the question of what life without Belmonte would mean for her.
After Belmonte has finally found out Konstanze's whereabouts, he comes up with a dangerous plan: he wants to secretly kidnap her from the Seraglio. But the nocturnal action is noticed. The bassa is deeply disappointed, but refrains from a punishment. He lets them both go. With this generous gesture, he proves that revenge is not the solution. Because once it was Belmonte's father who took everything from him – his wife, his country and his rank.
Mozart wrote “The Abduction from the Seraglio” in German on behalf of Emperor Joseph II, thereby making a significant contribution to the development of German opera and at the same time using the Turkish subject that was so popular at the time. He unfolds a network of extremely differentiated emotionality around the figures

Werden wir dieselben sein, wenn wir uns wiedersehen? Diese Frage bewegt sowohl Konstanze als auch Belmonte. Das Paar wurde nach einem Überfall getrennt. Konstanze lebt seitdem in einem Serail bei Bassa Selim, der sich in sie verliebt hat, sie jedoch nicht bedrängen will. Wohl oder übel muss sie sich mit der Frage auseinandersetzen, was ein Leben ohne Belmonte für sie bedeuten würde.
Nachdem Belmonte endlich Konstanzes Aufenthaltsort erfahren hat, fasst er einen gefährlichen Plan: Er will sie heimlich aus dem Serail entführen. Doch die nächtliche Aktion wird bemerkt. Der Bassa ist zutiefst enttäuscht, verzichtet aber auf eine Strafe. Er lässt die beiden gehen. Mit dieser großzügigen Geste beweist er, dass Rache keine Lösung ist. Denn einst war es Belmontes Vater, der ihm alles – die Frau, sein Land und Rang – genommen hat.
Mozart schrieb „Die Entführung aus dem Serail“ im Auftrag von Kaiser Joseph II. in deutscher Sprache und leistete damit einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur Entwicklung der deutschen Oper und verarbeitete zugleich das damals so beliebte türkische Sujet. Er entfaltet um die Figuren ein Geflecht äußerst differenzierter Emotionalität
