Таково вкратце содержание оперы Моцарта «Похищение из сераля», обыгрывающей чрезвычайно модный в Вене второй половины XVIII века стиль alla turca. Национальный состав «турецкой» оперы Моцарта весьма пестрый: помимо двух турок в истории участвуют трое испанцев и одна англичанка, и все они изъясняются на сочном немецком языке, ведь «Похищение из сераля» – это австрийский зингшпиль, «игра с пением», музыкальная комедия с диалогами. В разговорных сценах развивается незамысловатое действие, в музыкальных номерах сполна проявляется гений 26-летнего Моцарта. Композитор писал с увлечением – и потому, что зингшпиль должен был стать его дебютом в столичном Бургтеатре, и потому, что его собственная жизнь удивительным образом рифмовалась в тот момент с сюжетом «Похищения из сераля»: Моцарт как раз вызволял из домашнего «плена» свою невесту Констанцу, тезку главной героини.
На основе привычного театрального трафарета из двух пар влюбленных (двое высокородных, двое простолюдинов) композитор сотворил четыре живых человеческих характера. Там, где либреттист Готлиб Штефани поначалу предлагал лишь монолог или разговор, по настоянию Моцарта появились музыкальные номера. И пение героев, и звучание оркестра по-моцартовски тонко и естественно передают огромный спектр эмоций. Партия Бельмонта раскрывает его как человека благородного, ранимого и деликатного; он не склонен размахивать оружием, но готов отдать жизнь за любимую. Характер Констанцы под стать имени: она постоянная, стойкая, верная; ария Martern aller Arten тому убедительное подтверждение. Педрильо – обаятельный, деятельный, изобретательный. Блондхен – искренняя, свободная, бесстрашная. Стоя ниже Бельмонта и Констанцы на социальной лестнице, Педрильо и Блондхен нисколько не ниже их по своим человеческим качествам. Моцарт наделил обе пары высокими голосами: в ансамбле главных героев два сопрано и два тенора. На другом полюсе – управляющий Осмин, бас, единственный низкий мужской голос среди солистов. Осмин – ярчайший тип, одновременно свирепый и смешной. Его ария Solche hergelaufne Laffen в первом акте – это первая развернутая комическая ария в истории немецкой оперы. Контраст лирической и «варварской» линий – главный драматургический прием в «Похищении из сераля». На нем построена и увертюра, где брутальная (на слух эпохи Просвещения) музыкальная «туретчина» неожиданно сменяется нежнейшей лирикой с легким ренессансным оттенком, ведь действие происходит в XVI веке. Belmont's party reveals him as a noble, vulnerable and delicate person; he is not inclined to brandish weapons, but is ready to give his life for his beloved. The character of Constanta is to match the name: she is constant, persistent, faithful; The aria Martern aller Arten is a convincing confirmation of this. Pedrillo is charming, active, inventive. Blondchen - sincere, free, fearless. Standing below Belmont and Constanta on the social ladder, Pedrillo and Blondchen are in no way inferior to them in their human qualities. Mozart endowed both pairs with high voices: in the ensemble of the main characters there are two sopranos and two tenors. At the other extreme - the manager Osmin, bass, the only low male voice among the soloists. Osmin is the brightest type, both fierce and funny. His aria Solche hergelaufne Laffen in the first act is the first extended comic aria in the history of German opera. The contrast of the lyrical and "barbaric" lines is the main dramatic device in The Abduction from the Seraglio. An overture is also built on it, where the brutal (according to the Enlightenment era) musical "turet" suddenly gives way to the most delicate lyrics with a slight Renaissance tinge, because the action takes place in the 16th century.
