Constance, a young Spaniard and lady of quality, Blonde, her maid, and the valet Pedrillo were captured by pirates, then taken to a market for slaves. There, by chance, the pasha Selim, from the nobility Spanish and former Christian, redeems all three and makes so that they lead a decent life behind the walls of his palace. He raises Constance to the rank of favorite of the seraglio. Months pass, Belmonte, Constance's fiancé, warned by Pedrillo, charters a ship and plans to kidnap them one second time…
The Abduction from the Seraglio is enlightened entertainment, in the sense des Lumières: the most cheerful of Mozart's "singing games" is a hymn to freedom. This group portrait escaping from slavery is a metaphor for the European society of the time and a plea against authoritarian power. Bad doubt that through the vision of the Turkish director Yekta Kara, the pleasant Turkishness of the divine Mozart will be enriched of a contemporary reading grid. The quality of the Erfurt Opera choir and orchestra under the baton of the young and fiery Joana Mallwitz, Mozartian convinced, will bring joy to the theater.
