Joseph Haydn wrote his masterful oratorio, between 1797 and 1798. The work describes and celebrates the creation of the earth as described in the Bible, and in John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost from 1667. Haydn was inspired to compose an oratorio after his trips to England where he heard performances of Handel's popular music.

It is said that Haydn, a year before he died, had to be carried into the concert hall to hear the work. The audience was so excited that Haydn felt he had to say something. He is said to have smiled, pointed up to the sky and said: "It's not from me, everything comes from above!"

We are very happy to continue our good collaboration with Bodø Domkor. The concert is conducted this time by Jean Thorel, who last visited us in Bodø in 2021 at the concert New and old sounds

Joseph Haydn skrev sitt mesterlige oratorium, mellom 1797 og 1798. Verket beskriver og feirer jordens skapelse slik den beskrives i Bibelen, og i John Miltons episke dikt Paradise Lost fra 1667. Haydn ble inspirert til å komponere et oratorium etter sine turer til England hvor han hørte framføringer av Händels populære musikk.

Det sies at Haydn, ett år før han døde, måtte bæres inn i konsertsalen for å høre verket. Publikum var så begeistret at Haydn følte at han måtte si noe. Han skal ha smilt, pekt opp mot himmelen og sagt: «det er ikke fra meg, alt kommer der ovenfra!»

Vi er svært glade for å videreføre vårt gode samarbeid med Bodø Domkor. Konserten dirigeres denne gang av Jean Thorel som sist gjestet oss i Bodø i 2021 på konserten Nye og gamle klanger.
