In Naples the world is still in order and morale is upheld: The horror is all the greater when the acting diva Silvia Lombardi reports that a stranger surprised and kissed her in her sleep! While in the eyes of the indignant state authorities this is, of course, an attempted kidnapping, a bomb deposited under the Prime Minister's bed that same night appears far less spectacular - especially since it has not even exploded ...

Police Minister Caretto now has the thankless task of finding out who was what and why it all happened in the first place. What starts out like a political thriller develops into a weird and enjoyable confusion about the power of love, including a fashion designer whose inaudibly sung serenade almost cost him his head.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold's musical comedy skilfully moves between opera and operetta, and the composer ignites fireworks full of sparkling melodies - sometimes rousing, sometimes sentimental, but always brilliantly colorful.
