It's about a pair of siblings who have lost each other and find each other again. It's about incestuous love, adultery, and affairs. It's about power and intrigue. But it's also about love, trust and the search for happiness. And it's about a ring that means the future of the world. Richard Wagner's Die Walküre begins like a simple triangular story in which two people fall in love and a third suffers as a result. But in the course of the opera the deeper dimension of this entanglement becomes apparent and the perspective expands beyond the purely human. It is nothing less than part of the global epic The Ring of the Nibelung , which Richard Wagner created with the Valkyrie .

The first day of the Bühnenfestspiel is one of Wagner's most popular operas and has also fascinated opera goers from the start: those who were not open to all of the composer's achievements. The reason for this is the combination of Wagner's musical innovations such as large declamatory passages with proven style elements from the older numbered operas. So it happened that, for example, the “Valkyries ride” could become one of the most internationally famous pieces of music.
