Don Juan is, despite (or perhaps because of) all his conquests, alone. For no one - not even the passionate Donna Elvira who accompanies him around the country and kingdom - seems to love him. Donna Anna, Zerlina, Elvira's maid, Elvira herself; they all want Don Juan's love. But if you start to see their driving forces, is love the goal?

Donna Anna wants to free herself from her father and an uninteresting relationship with Don Ottavio. Zerlina in turn seems to see Don Juan as a means of climbing socially or is she perhaps just looking for one last adventure before the impending marriage to Masetto? And finally, Donna Elvira who has already been abandoned by Don Juan once, but still does not give up hope of becoming the woman who will eventually make him enter the narrow path.
