In this work, which is strongly influenced by the gender roles of the 19th century, director Jochen Biganzoli focuses on the fantasies of men and the struggle of women to free themselves from them

 
Jochen Biganzoli, who celebrates success throughout Germany, was nominated for the German theatre prize DER FAUST in 2016 for his production of Dmitri Shostakovich's »Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk«. Biganzoli describes his way of working in an interview with the magazine Oper & Tanz as follows: "I listen to and feel music wholeheartedly. And I also look for this state when staging. By listening to a lot of the music, including myself, I try to fathom what is actually happening. Where do my hair stand on end, where do you twitch, where does it have a triviality. When I have found the intellectual superstructure through literature studies, other backgrounds and the determination of what I want to tell with my staging, I try to combine both.«
