A violinist on the roof: For Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the figure became the epitome of the connection between art and life, home and abroad and at the same time the starting point for a musical with which they achieved a real revolution. Based on Sholem Alejchem's story »Tewje, der Milchmann« they created a successful play that deals with the fate of the residents of the fictitious shtetl Anatevka. At first, Milchmann Tevye finds it quite reassuring that there are traditions here that one can stick to in life. The thought of securing good lots for his daughters completes his happiness. But the young women have their own plans for the future, which they finally manage to convince their father of. But the idyll is threatened: the news arrives, the village of Anatevka was to be evacuated within three days. Markus Bothe (including »The Homecoming of Odysseus«, »Orpheus in the Underworld«) and his team tell »Anatevka« as a gripping story between two generations who constantly have to reassure themselves of their own identity – while always maintaining their courage and optimism .

Ein Geiger auf dem Dach: Für Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock und Sheldon Harnick wurde die Figur zum Inbild der Verbindung von Kunst und Leben, Heimat und Fremde und zugleich zum Ausgangspunkt für ein Musical, mit dem ihnen eine regelrechte Revolution gelang. Basierend auf Scholem Alejchems Erzählung »Tewje, der Milchmann« kreierten sie ein Erfolgsstück, das vom Schicksal der Bewohnerschaft des fiktiven Schtetls Anatevka handelt. Dass es hier Traditionen gibt, an die man sich im Leben halten kann, findet Milchmann Tewje zunächst einmal durchaus beruhigend. Der Gedanke, für seine Töchter gute Partien zu sichern, macht sein Glück komplett. Die jungen Frauen aber haben ganz eigene Zukunftspläne, von denen sie den Vater schließlich auch überzeugen können. Doch das Idyll ist bedroht: Die Nachricht trifft ein, das Dorf Anatevka sei binnen dreier Tage zu räumen. Markus Bothe (u.a. »Die Heimkehr des Odysseus«, »Orpheus in der Unterwelt«) und sein Team erzählen »Anatevka« als packende Geschichte zwischen zwei Generationen, die sich ihrer eigenen Identität stets aufs Neue versichern müssen – und Lebensmut und Optimismus dabei immer bewahren.
