PROKOFJEW Mit Nicolas Altstaedt wird einer der führenden Cellisten unserer Zeit Solist des Frühlingskonzertes sein. Altstaedt hat unter anderem mit Orchestern wie den Wiener und Münchner Philharmonikern sowie dem London Philharmonic gespielt und mit Dirigenten wie Sir Neville Mariner, Gustavo Dudamel und Teodor Currentzis konzertiert. Derzeit ist der gebürtige Heidelberger (Jahrgang 1982) Professor an der renommierten Berliner Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, an der er einst selbst studierte. Altstaedt wird mit der Niederbayerischen Philharmonie Sergej Prokofjews Sinfonia concertante (op. 125) spielen, die dem legendären russischen Cellisten Mstislaw Rostropowitsch auf den Leib geschrieben war.

 

SCHOSTAKOWITSCH Außerdem steht mit Dmitri Schostakowitschs Symphonie Nr. 10 ein weiteres großformatiges Werk auf dem Programm, das zudem einen aktuellen Zeitbezug nicht verleugnen kann: Bei Schostakowitschs Zehnter handelt es sich und eine ebenso bittere wie trotzige Abrechnung mit der Stalin-Ära. Schostakowitschs Vermächtnis ist ein Abgesang auf jede Form der Diktatur und ein beeindruckendes Dokument des Ringens um menschliche und künstlerische Selbstbehauptung in einem totalitären System.

PROKOFIEV Nicolas Altstaedt, one of the leading cellists of our time, will be the soloist at the spring concert. Altstaedt has played with orchestras such as the Vienna and Munich Philharmonics as well as the London Philharmonic and has given concerts with conductors such as Sir Neville Mariner, Gustavo Dudamel and Teodor Currentzis. The Heidelberg native (born in 1982) is currently a professor at the renowned Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, where he once studied. Altstaedt will play Sergei Prokofiev's Sinfonia concertante (op. 125) with the Lower Bavarian Philharmonic , which was written specifically for the legendary Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropowitsch.

 

SHOSTAKOVICH There is also another large-format work on the program, Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, which cannot deny its current relevance: Shostakovich's Tenth is a bitter and defiant reckoning with the Stalin era. Shostakovich's legacy is a swansong for every form of dictatorship and an impressive document of the struggle for human and artistic self-assertion in a totalitarian system.
