Grigory Sokolov is zonder twijfel een van de indrukwekkendste levende pianisten. De Russische grootmeester zet muziek met zoveel overtuigingskracht naar zijn hand, dat het vanzelfsprekend is en toch als nieuw klinkt. Sokolov is superieur, maar nooit arrogant; hij staat boven alles, maar stelt zich vooral ten dienste van de muziek op.

NRC Handelsblad noemde Sokolov de hogepriester van eigenheid en evenwicht: “Je kunt geluk zoeken in reizen, spirituele reizen of boeken. Of je woont een recital bij van de Russische meesterpianist. Een avond Sokolov is tripvervangend, want zijn musiceren is zelf een avontuur van en voor de geest. Sokolov mag je niet missen; de gewijde concentratie die ontstaat wanneer een pianist leeft voor muziek als sublieme uiting van menselijk kunnen, lijden en extase.”

Grigory Sokolov is undoubtedly one of the most impressive living pianists. The Russian grandmaster dominates his music with such conviction that it is taken for granted and yet sounds like new. Sokolov is superior, but never arrogant; he is the very top, but above everything else he puts himself at the service of the music.
