De Slag om Arnhem was een diep ingrijpende gebeurtenis in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De Stichting War Requiem – Bridge to the Future probeert die herinnering levend te houden met diverse bijeenkomsten en manifestaties. Elke paar jaar vindt in het kader van de Airborne Herdenkingen een grootschalige uitvoering van het War Requiem van Benjamin Britten met het orkest plaats. Dit jaar staat dit ingrijpende werk opnieuw op het programma, ditmaal onder leiding van Britten-kenner Bas Wiegers. Voor de allereerste opname van het Requiem engageerde Britten drie vocale solisten uit Rusland, Engeland en Duitsland, als teken van verzoening tussen de strijdende partijen, een traditie die met deze uitvoering in ere gehouden wordt. The Battle of Arnhem was a profound event in the Second World War. The War Requiem – Bridge to the Future Foundation tries to keep that memory alive with various meetings and events. Every few years, as part of the Airborne Commemorations, a large-scale performance of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem with the orchestra takes place. This year, this radical work is again on the agenda, this time under the direction of British connoisseur Bas Wiegers. For the very first recording of the RequiemBritten engaged three vocal soloists from Russia, England and Germany, as a sign of reconciliation between the warring parties, a tradition that is honored with this performance.
