In celebration of the 60th anniversary of its founding, the Korea National Opera presents <Evening Prayer on the Island of Sicily>, a rare masterpiece left by Verdi, for the first time in Korea. The opera, Evening Prayer on the Island of Sicily, is a work dealing with the 'Sicily Bay Incident'. The Sicilians, who longed for freedom from French oppression, revolted in 1282, shouting for independence, using the sound of a bell announcing evening prayers as a signal. This historical masterpiece, consisting of a total of five acts, is especially famous for having the grandest overture among Verdi's operas. In this performance, Seonyoung Seo, Seongeun Kim, Seong Kang Kang, director of <Orlando Pinto Pacho>, director of the 2016 National Opera Company <Orlando Pinto Pacho>, who drew attention by showing a unique interpretation and Hong Seok-won, a conductor with gentle charisma who was well-received for his 2021 <Nabucco>, will join. Top-notch vocalists such as Yunjong Kook, Junmo Yang, Myungwon Han, Woongjo Choi, and Daeyoung Kim appear in large numbers to present unforgettable moments of emotion.

국립오페라단은 창단 60주년을 맞아 베르디가 남긴 희대의 역작 <시칠리아 섬의 저녁기도>를 국내초연으로 선보인다. 오페라 <시칠리아 섬의 저녁기도>는 ‘시칠리아 만종 사건’을 다룬 작품이다. 프랑스의 압제로부터 자유를 갈망해오던 시칠리아인들이 1282년 부활절 저녁기도를 알리는 종소리를 신호 삼아 독립을 외치며 봉기하는 내용을 담고 있다. 총 5막으로 이루어진 이 역사적 대작은 특히 베르디의 오페라 중 가장 웅장한 서곡을 가진 작품으로도 유명하다. 2021년 국립오페라단 <나부코>로 호평받은 부드러운 카리스마의 지휘자 홍석원과 개성있는 해석을 선보여 화제를 모은 2016년 국립오페라단 <오를란도 핀토 파초>의 연출가 파비오 체레사가 합류하는 이번 공연은 서선영, 김성은, 강요셉, 국윤종, 양준모, 한명원, 최웅조, 김대영 등 정상급 성악가들이 대거 출연하여 잊을 수 없는 감동의 순간을 선사한다.
