You couldn't ask for an opera more Made for Miami than Domenico Cimarosa’s delightful comedy El matrimonio secreto (The Secret Marriage). Not only is FGO’s version set among the world of the hard-working Cuban diaspora in the Miami Beach of the 1980s, but it will be performed in a specially commissioned Spanish translation from the original Italian. The hilarious story revolves around the machinations of a wealthy entrepreneur who wishes to improve his social status by marrying off his daughters to men of high station. The only problem is, the prettiest one is already secretly married to his secretary! The action is set to Cimarosa’s delightful score, a cross between the music of his contemporary, W. A. Mozart, and Gioacchino Rossini’s madcap melodies. Without a doubt, this delicious comedy will delight your ear and tickle your funny bone.
